I rarely meet in clubs or bars, so I asked my friend to share her tips for going out in Marrakech. If you’re looking for clubs, bars, or other popular places to dance and drink, she shares her favorites! If you’re looking for cheap nightlife options in Marrakech, you probably won’t find them, especially when it comes to alcohol. Morocco is not a dry country and the alcohol tax is high, which must be taken into account when comparing costs.

One of my favorite activities in Marrakech is nightlife. While I can hang out with friends at Djemma El Fna in the evening, eat at one of the food stalls, listen to gnawa musicians or watch some of the traditional games, sometimes I just want to have something dressed and a restaurant, a bar or a good visit to the old nightclub.

While every city in Morocco is sure to delight you, Marrakech is committed to attracting your attention and offers a unique nightlife that will amaze and amaze your travel experience in Morocco. Marrakech, the Paris of Morocco, is a sleepless city with endless trails that offer some of the best entertainment a city can offer.

After a busy day in bustling Marrakech, head to Djemma el Fna square. This relatively new area of the city was founded by the French in 1912 and is the spirit of the nightlife and coffee culture in Marrakech.

Hivernage & Gueliz

Over the past ten years, many international restaurants offering shows have also populated Guéliz, the Palmeraie and the Hivernage gardens district in Marrakech.

The upmarket Hivernage district in particular is full of night lighting options and is located in the heart of the Golden Triangle district. There are also several 5-star boutique hotels in Marrakech, a casino and luxury nightclubs.

Down the street from Hivernage is the French town of Guéliz de Mararkech, which is also known for its historic art deco architecture designed during the French protectorate. Guéliz is not far from the Koutoubia Mosque and the UNESCO World Heritage Medina.

The nightlife in Marrakech varies in its offerings and ranges from classic cocktails, piano bars to high-end restaurants. Travelers can start their evening with live Indian, Oriental or contemporary entertainment, then visit one of the city’s quaint bars. For those who have more energy, Hivernage nightclubs open at midnight and remain open until the wee hours of the morning.

As a New Yorker, I’m going to be honest, I compare everything to the New York scene, but my stay in Marrakech showed me that there are absolutely incredible places here. I will list some of the main clubs, restaurants and lounges (by district) that you cannot miss in Marrakech. I visit some of these places all the time and others are recommendations from my friends abroad:

Where to go out in the medina: THE BEST PLACES FOR MARRAKECH NIGHTLIFE

I live in the medina and frankly there are not many places where you can enjoy a cocktail or a bottle of wine. But here are some gems that I found. So if you want to stay in this part of the city and get out there, you can check out these places:

Le Salama Restaurant and Lounge

It’s actually my favorite restaurant and my rooftop lounge in the Djemma El Fna area. The menu is exclusively Moroccan and although my favorite Moroccan food is made at home, this place is at the top of my book. Meals range from 150 to 350 dirhams. The ambience offers a romantic blend of traditional Moroccan riad decor and the look of a jazz bar. On the roof, you can enjoy shisha and cocktails with their daily “happy hour” (which is more regular because the special lasts all night), two for the price of a cocktail. So, if you like mixed drinks, you can taste 2 strawberry mojitos for 150 dirhams while listening to the musical mix of your DJ and local belly dancer.

Restaurant The three-tier is located just a few steps from the heart of the famous Jemaa El Fna square in Marrakech. The property has a colonial interior style that is complemented by exotic Moroccan plants. On the top floor there is a roofed sky bar restaurant, which resembles a greenhouse, and floor-to-ceiling Bonnet glass windows through which you can see the Atlas Mountains. Every detail in Le Salama is exquisite. The evenings are perfect for enjoying Moroccan wine and cocktails. From 5 p.m., the restaurant serves a menu of happy hour drinks. After sunset, exotic belly dancers fill the room.

Dar Anika

This magnificent riad is located in Arset La Maach near Place Mellah. It’s a great place for a last romantic drink or a day on the roof. The staff are very friendly and when the owner is there they will check on their guests to make sure they feel in good hands and appreciate the space.

The best Riads and Palaces in Marrakech

Kosy Bar

The Kosy Bar is on the other side of the Mellah Plaza. It has a large roof terrace which offers you a fantastic view of the medina at sunset. It’s a little more expensive than other places in the area, but it’s still a great place for dinner and a bottle of wine.

Le Tanjia

You can visit Le Tanjia a few doors from Kosy Bar. Beautiful decor and a large roof terrace are another place where you can enjoy dinner and the fantastic view.

The Best 15 Moroccan Food you should absolutely taste

Café Clock

It is the jewel of the restaurants of the kasbah. It plays a modern variant of traditional Moroccan cuisine such as the famous camel burger. Although no alcohol is served here, that doesn’t prevent the place from having a big night scene. They regularly have Gnawa musicians and most people end up dancing and clapping. They also offer traditional Moroccan stories in English so that visitors can learn more about the local culture. It is a young, fun and Moroccan hipster place to relax.

Now let’s move on to the new city of Gueliz, where you can forget that you are in Morocco and feel more like Europe. In this part of the city there is certainly a greater choice of bars, clubs and lounges. So if you are a traveler who prefers city lights and clubs, this part of the city is for you.

Café du Livre

This is my date in Gueliz. It’s the perfect place to start or end your evening. It is a restaurant, bar and library / bookshop at the same time. You can enjoy comforting American dishes like buffalo wings and burgers like the rock’n’roll burger with tapped beers from 25 dirhams. On Monday you can take part in their questionnaire evening, which attracts a large international crowd. They offer special happy hour drinks during the week and live music on Friday and Saturday. If you are a sports fan, they also broadcast major sporting events.

Mama Afrika

If you want flavors from sub-Saharan Africa you have to come here. The decor is great and the food is great if you want to try something other than local cuisine. The scene is young with local musicians, which makes it one of their favorite places.

This place is fairly new to Marrakech, but between its cheap drinks and its modern tapas that can be bought on the walls, it becomes an integral part of nightlife.

This lounge has a very French-Moroccan style and is an ideal place to share drinks and tapas with friends.

Another new place that has just opened but is also becoming very popular is Barometre. The location has a dark and smoky atmosphere, but the design is modern. Cocktails are expensive, but generous in their beverage sizes. You also have to try the burgers!

68 Bar a Vin

If the club is less your thing and you are just looking for a nice place to have a drink with friends over a good wine, this is the place. Wine is in the glass and there is also food available. Smoking is allowed, which you should consider if you are sensitive to smoking.

I kept the more expensive hotel clubs and a casino at the end. The chic Hivernage neighborhood is home to some of the city’s most glamorous and elegant hotels.

A restaurant in Marrakech in the heart of Gueliz. Dinner and entertainment are offered every evening from 7 p.m. in their refined, cozy and sumptuous space, which oscillates between modernity and tradition to reflect oriental glamor. Azar offers oriental cuisine that combines a subtle blend of Lebanese and Moroccan flavors with delicious and imaginative Mediterranean dishes. The soft candle light, the ringing of cannon strings, the lascivious and balanced belly dancers and the scent of Chicha. Lean on the patio sofas with a glass of mint tea in hand! With these words, you may have the chance to try out the oriental experience of Azar. The Azar restaurant in Marrakech offers dinner and a show with its orchestra on site from Thursday to Saturday.

Theatro is a fantastic nightclub that offers incredible performances with dancers, acrobats and much more every weekend. I visited international and local DJs while Gnawa musicians went on stage to do a crazy remix with their drums. But there is a price to pay. The standard entry is around 225 dirhams and a table with a bottle of your choice starts at 1000 dirhams.

Theatro at Essadi Palace – is a lively nightclub that offers incredible performances with dancers, acrobats and more every weekend. There are international and local DJs, while Gnawa musicians go on stage to create a crazy remix with their drums. The Essaid Palace is a resort hotel and the ideal place for those who want to spend an exciting evening. The evenings can be divided between the hotel casino or the Theatro nightclub.

Founded in 1952, the Es Saadi casino is the first in Morocco. It was completely renovated in 2003, the same year that the sister hall, the Club Theatro, entered the scene. The Theatro keeps club goers in a state of wonder. It has been converted from an old Theatro and offers acrobats, jugglers and dancers. Another option for nightlife on the Essadi site is a brasserie called Epicurean. The restaurant’s lounge bar at the end of the evening is equipped with crystal chandeliers, mahogany furniture and large mirrors. Some of Africa’s best singers and dancers appear on stage.

Es Saadi Casino & Epicurien

I am going to put these two together as they are both in the same building next to the theater, which are all part of the Es Saadi Hotel’s park. If you like slot machines and games of chance, you can visit the casino and test your luck. If you’d rather skip the game, you can go straight back and find this restaurant at night. They have two in-house DJs and a live band that covers old and new hits in their own style.

La Mamounia Hotel

This is where Winston Churchill had his own suite and Alfred Hitchcock wrote the “birds”. For a sophisticated and elegant evening in Marrakech, the refined Le Bar Churchill is hard to beat. As part of the five star La Mamounia Palace, the bar exudes style and opulence. The ambience is embellished by the sounds of a soft jazz ambiance, art deco velvet furniture, padded red leather walls, leopard skin and soft lighting.

You can start your evening with cocktails at Churchill or sit outside in the garden of the Italian restaurant. For those looking for an adrenaline rush, the hotel’s Grand Casino is the perfect choice. La Mamounia requires a sophisticated dress code. This is the place of choice for those who want to fulfill a big Gatsby dream. The hotel designed in 1922 by the architects Prost and Marchisio. Winston Churchill called it “the most beautiful place in the world”. He has spent many seasons painting from his own balcony. The hotel, its bar and two restaurants (Le Marocain and L’Italien) have attracted some of the most famous celebrities and celebrities in the world.

Note that there is an elegant dress code for the bar and all other public areas of the hotel. Ambient jazz music hovers in the air and monochrome portraits of jazz legends watch the richly padded red leather walls. Curl up on the animal print rug before sitting in a beautiful black velvet chair for a drink and a selection of snack foods at the bar. Open every week from Wednesday to Saturday.

Le Comptoir, also known as Le Comptoir Darna, is a legendary place in Marrakech, rue Ahmed Chaqui, in the heart of the lively Hivernage district west of the old city of Medina. The two-story restaurant is considered the best nightmare in Marrakech. It was inaugurated in 1999 and is a fusion between East and West. In Arabic, “Darna” means “our house” and was built with the concept of creating a space where travelers can meet and share unforgettable moments. Comptoir Darna offers exotic decor, shows and reliable fine cuisine.

Their night shows are excellent and usually consist of drummers and dancers who perform in a variety of classical and cabaret styles. The artists and belly dancers of Gnaoua are among the artists on the scene. Travelers come to watch the experience and savor the gastronomic delights. The club serves original cocktails and has a terrace where you can smoke shisha or enjoy a mint tea and watch the stars. Their famous belly dance show traditionally takes place every day at 10 p.m.

SO Lounge

The SO Lounge is part of the Sofitel Hotel. They have a catering service and regular live music – singers and groups. It is expensive. So if you are on a budget, you might go out to dinner somewhere else and party later.

One last tip. Many riads do not offer alcohol, but you can bring your own. You can always go to a grocery store (like Carrefour) and buy a bottle of everything you want and enjoy on the roof of your riad. If they serve alcohol, they are probably not too open to bring drinks. Not sure? Just ask.
